Math Careers in a World of AI

Nobody can tell you what careers will look like in twenty years and that uncertainty is exactly where this conversation begins. Rather than chase a moving target, this talk asks a different question: what kind of thinker does your child need to become to create those jobs, or bring something irreplaceable to the ones that exist? In a world where AI has made answers a commodity, questions are where the value lives. The ability to ask them, make connections across disciplines, and iterate without giving up is what makes someone indispensable. Gifted kids are already wired this way. This talk is about helping them trust that instinct and build the foundation to change things.

Kathy joined AoPS in 2020 and has 15+ years of experience in mathematics and gifted education including coaching MATHCOUNTS teams, facilitating math circles, managing math competitions at UT Dallas, and more. Passionate about connecting ideas, people, and resources, Kathy has spent her career guiding generations of students and their families to get the most from their educational journeys. Both of Kathy’s sons, who are former homeschoolers, are AoPS alums who have greatly benefited from the experience.
